Volkswagen is celebrating an award-winning start to 2023 with the hugely popular, and recently enhanced, T-Roc taking ‘Small SUV of the Year’ at the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year Awards.

The T-Roc, now well established within the increasingly-competitive SUV sector, was launched as Volkswagen’s first compact SUV, and sits between the Taigo and Tiguan in its nine-strong SUV family. High levels of practicality and an evocative design, teamed with clear value and dependability, make it easy to see why the model has sold over one million examples since its introduction in 2017.

In 2022, the revised T-Roc was unveiled, with the What Car? expert panel of judges applauding its increased technology and enhanced interior. The updates have taken T-Roc from strength to strength, with strong sales performances year-on-year. T-Roc was Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV in the UK for the second year running in 2022, with over 18,000 registrations.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, said: "Ever since it was launched, the Volkswagen T-Roc has been one of the best small SUVs on sale, thanks to its cosseting ride, superb refinement and generous passenger and boot space. However, updates made in 2022 moved it to the very top of the class, with the revised trim levels offering even better value and the interior now feeling much classier."

Rod McLeod, Director at Volkswagen UK, said: “It’s always great to kick-off the new year on a high. The T-Roc has been a popular addition to our line-up ever since its introduction in 2017, and to win an award in this highly-competitive segment of the market shows that it remains a prime choice for customers in the UK.”

Also commended at the What Car? Awards was the Volkswagen Golf R, scooping ‘Best Hot Hatch for Everyday Usability’. The Golf’s flagship model is renowned for combining high performance with class-leading practicality.
