Coffee on electric wheels: Elroq and Enyaq serving coffee

Thanks to the cutting-edge technology of Škoda’s electric vehicles, excellent coffee can now be enjoyed in unexpected places. The Elroq and Enyaq have been transformed into mobile cafés – the Škoda Coffee Cars – from which fans along the Tour de France route were served more than 15,000 cups of coffee.

At numerous interesting events organized or supported by Škoda Auto, visitors may encounter one of these two unmissable vehicles, designed to appeal above all to coffee lovers. The carmaker has converted one Elroq and one Enyaq into fully functional mobile cafés, serving delicious freshly brewed coffee directly from the vehicles.

The First Coffee Cars

The first Coffee Car was created for the initial press drives of the Elroq in Mallorca, followed by a second unit based on the new Enyaq. Both feature identical café equipment. “As the two models are closely related, we were able to apply the same technical solution and installation,” explains Martin Hampl from the brand’s marketing department.

Sustainable Coffee in an Emission-Free Café

The link between coffee and Škoda’s electric vehicles is no coincidence. As part of its commitment to sustainability, the company has long supplied its own Curiosity Fuel coffee to its facilities. Electric vehicles are also particularly suitable for this transformation, as their high-capacity batteries can power all the necessary equipment.

Technical Setup

Only minor technical modifications were required. The base installation was supplied by a traditional Czech partner and then adapted to integrate a professional coffee machine. In addition to the coffee machine and grinder, the cars carry two refrigerators, an ice maker, a gas stove, and an electric kettle.

An alternator converter enables the café equipment to be powered directly from the high-voltage 82 kWh traction battery. This provides not only a driving range of several hundred kilometres, but also long-lasting capacity for coffee preparation. “At Milan Design Week, everything was powered solely from the battery. After a week of serving over 3,000 coffees, the car still had 20% of its charge left,” describes Hampl.

The setup also includes a roof box with a 100 W solar panel. For extended capacity, an additional external 220 W panel can be connected. Both can contribute to powering the onboard café equipment. The box holds coffee and water supplies, recycled paper cups, and two bar tables for serving. With the installation, both the Elroq and Enyaq can accommodate a three-member crew, ready to serve coffee within 10 minutes of stopping. “Most of that time is spent heating up the coffee machine,” Hampl adds with a smile.

Simply Unmissable

Škoda Auto now uses these vehicles across its wide range of activities, offering free coffee wherever they appear. The Elroq Coffee Car became one of the highlights of this year’s Tour de France, accompanied by Czech influencer Michal Kamermeier, known as Majk na cestách (Majk on the Road). Throughout the event, he served more than 15,000 cups of coffee to fans.

“It was an amazing experience. People noticed us everywhere – the striking graphics immediately set us apart from the other Elroq and Enyaq cars in the caravan. And once they learned we were serving free coffee, the interest was tremendous,” says Majk. According to him, fans rated the quality of the coffee very highly. “One Italian fan especially surprised me. He came to us saying he hadn’t had a good coffee in two weeks. We were a bit nervous about preparing his espresso, but he appreciated it, thanked us, and told us it was the best coffee he’d had in a long time. Coming from an Italian, I think that’s quite a compliment,” the influencer and traveller recalls.

In addition to Milan Design Week and the Tour de France, Škoda’s mobile cafés have also appeared at other occasions: at the Salon Rétromobile exhibition in Paris, the Metronome Festival in Prague, and during the Mountain Bike World Championships held in Switzerland in September. Škoda Auto also uses them at its own presentations, including the unveiling of the new student-built Škoda L&K 130 and the press drives of the new Elroq and Enyaq models.

Together, the two Coffee Cars have already ground more than 500 kilograms of coffee this year, with the total expected to reach around one tonne.
