Volkswagen R is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Golf R with an exceptional special-edition model. Some things cannot be expressed in words. The Golf R is one of them. It stands for driving pleasure for which there is no vocabulary. The world of emotions takes over when the R-button is pressed. It is then time to feel the R.

The Golf R has been part of the Volkswagen model range since 2002. The 20th anniversary is being celebrated with an exclusive special-edition model.
R-styling
The R is exciting and is a genuine eye-catcher with features such as high-quality decorative trim in Genuine Carbon.
The latest model celebrates the 20-year success story of Volkswagen R and above all the Golf R – a story that started with the Golf R32, a legend with 177 kW (241 PS), the iconic 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. Today, the R-community has fans all over the world and unites car enthusiasts who have a passion for agility, sporty design and performance suitable for everyday driving.
The new Golf R “20 Years” also shows off its capabilities when it comes to its aesthetic appearance. The black radiator grille of the special edition prominently features the blue R-logo – the symbol that has stood for especially powerful cars with an exclusive design for 20 years. The blue R-logo can also be found on both wings and at the rear.
Look forward to the following highlights with this special-edition model: blue design accents, a “20” anniversary logo on the B-pillar and an elegant “20 R” logo projection from the exterior mirrors. In the vehicle interior, the performance factor is underlined by the decorative trim elements in Genuine Carbon, which are used for the first time in this model.

Feel the indescribable
The power of the new Golf R “20 Years” is already effectively placed centre stage when the vehicle is started. For even more R-feeling, the driver can select an engine start with higher engine speeds of up to 2,500 rpm. This is accompanied by an especially distinctive drive sound. When driving in manual mode, the DSG provides noticeable feedback from the gearbox when shifting up.
The engine responsiveness has been improved by turbocharger preloading and an open throttle valve in overrun phases. This permits faster power development when accelerating, and the Golf R “20 Years” can be driven even more dynamically as a result.

Intensive acceleration
Thanks to the optimised engine tuning, the Golf R “20 Years” can be driven faster and more dynamically, something that is also noticeable when accelerating from a standing start: the anniversary model sprints from 0 to 62 MPH in just 4.6 seconds.
Interior
Sport meets elegance
There are also new features in the interior of the Golf R “20 Years”. Used for the first time by Volkswagen, the decorative trims in Genuine Carbon are a high-quality visual highlight and further underline the vehicle’s performance factor. The standard premium sport seats in nappa leather provide drivers with the necessary comfort to deliver maximum performance.
